Altitude Swissies is the hobby project of Casey Campbell. Casey is currently attending the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY, which sits at 7,220 feet above elevation and was the inspiration for her kennel name. Growing up in Wyoming, Casey was an active 11 year 4-H member and 5 year FFA member. She started showing Shelties at the age of 6, alongside her older brothers. In her years as a 4-H and FFA member, she showed all manner of livestock, from chickens and rabbits, to horses and market steers, but her passion was her dogs. She bought her first Swissy, Juice, in 2006 and fell in love with the breed.
Juice was her constant companion through college as she learned to roll with her owner's crazy whims, including moving to Portland, Oregon when Juice was 2. Juice swam in the ocean, hiked at Forest Park, and even visited Seattle on a day trip. When Juice was 6, Casey expanded her Swissy crew to 2 with the addition of Woody, from Calypso Swissies in Golden, CO. The dynamic duo traveled everywhere with Casey, eventually visiting the Gulf of Mexico at Galveston, TX and Lake Superior at Duluth, MN.
After Juice passed away in August 2015, Vegas came out to Wyoming through the generosity of Casey's longtime friend and the breeder of Juice's sire, Lori Houha. Woody and Vegas have traveled to Casey and Juice's old stomping grounds in Oregon and swam in the Pacific in Astoria, OR with their friends Slugger and Norman. Petra came out to Wyoming in February 2016, and the Three Stooges hiked the mountains of the Snowy Range and the Bighorns until Vegas went back home with Lori in July 2016. Lyra came out to join the Wyoming Swissy clan after a harrowing 3 days stuck at Chicago O'Hare with Casey, and Lyra's co-owner Megan Lewis. Lyra will be living with Megan after this February, and Vegas will be back home in Laramie with Casey to chase some points with the big boys.
While showing dogs is her pastime, traveling and experiencing the world with her dogs is truly Casey's passion. There are very few states she has visited without dogs, and she counts landmarks and mountain peaks among her dogs' accomplishments.
Casey is a member of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of the Rockies and
the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America.
